Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has announced her exit from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), saying she will not seek re-election or any other political seat through the party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wamuchomba made the announcement during a press briefing at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi.She said the decision followed consultations with her constituents, community leaders, church leaders and other political leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wamuchomba said she could no longer remain in a political party where she felt some leaders had shown little regard for other communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am going to announce today that after soul searching, serious consultation with my voters, community leaders, and the church, I feel that my conscience does not allow me to dine, associate and cluster with people who have no regard for others,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTherefore, I am not going to defend or campaign or seek any political seat through my party, UDA,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The Githunguri MP singled out Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, accusing him of making remarks that she considered disrespectful to the Mount Kenya community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wamuchomba also questioned what she described as selective action against leaders accused of making remarks that could fuel ethnic tensions. She said she had previously called for action against Duale but felt her concerns had not been addressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She contrasted Duale’s case with that of Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia, who she said had been arrested and taken to court, with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) also taking action.\u201cWhy hasn\u2019t Aden Duale been summoned? Is he above the law?\u201d Wamuchomba asked, according to People Daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wamuchomba said she would now speak alongside Kenyans raising concerns about government policies and the conduct of public officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am going to join Kenyans to call out those people, because alone in government nobody can hear me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The MP did not announce the political party she intends to join. She said her next political move would be guided by consultations with her constituents before she announces the political vehicle she will use to defend her Githunguri seat in the 2027 General Election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her departure adds to a series of political realignments involving UDA leaders from the Mount Kenya region ahead of the 2027 elections.Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro left UDA in August and joined the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK), where he is now party leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Murang\u2019a Governor Irungu Kang\u2019ata and Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Badilisha have also left UDA and aligned themselves with the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP). Kang\u2019ata announced in July that he would defend his gubernatorial seat on a DCP ticket, while Badilisha also joined the party and said he would seek re-election through it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The growing number of defections has increased political activity in Mount Kenya as parties and leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Wamuchomba, however, the immediate task is to decide on her next political home as she seeks another term representing the people of Githunguri.<\/p>\n\n\n
