A Nairobi advocate,Ally Ahmed Ally, has been arrested after being accused of misappropriating KSh49.4 million that had been entrusted to him to oversee the purchase of a parcel of land in the capital.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Ally Ahmed Ally was arrested by detectives from the DCI Nairobi Regional Office based in Kilimani. He is being investigated for the offence of stealing by an agent.

Investigators allege that the advocate, who practises under the law firm Rasheed Rage and Nassir Advocates, received a total of KSh49,400,500 from a client between November 16, 2023, and January 3, 2024. The money was reportedly sent in several transactions for the sole purpose of purchasing land in Nairobi.

The DCI claims that instead of completing the land purchase, the advocate unlawfully diverted the funds for personal use.

The suspect is currently being held in police custody as detectives finalise investigations and prepare to present him before court.

Police say he is expected to face a charge of stealing by an agent, contrary to Section 283(b) of the Penal Code.
