𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐌𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐚 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐝𝐳𝐮𝐠𝐚 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐫

Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana and his wife, Deputy Government Spokesperson Mwanaisha Chidzuga, are mourning the death of their last-born daughter, Amal Mghoi Mungatana.

The eight-year-old died on Sunday, September 13, 2026, while receiving treatment at Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital in Muthaiga, Nairobi, according to a statement from the family.

In a statement shared on his social media platforms, Senator Mungatana announced the death, saying Amal had “gone to be with the Lord.”

“It is with profound sorrow that the family of Hon. Senator Dr. Danson Mungatana and his wife, Hon. Mwanaisha Chidzuga, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announce the passing of their last-born daughter, Amal Mghoi Mungatana,” Mungatana stated.

“Amal went to be with the Lord on Sunday 13th September 2026, while undergoing treatment at Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital, Muthaiga.”

The family said Amal had struggled with her health for eight years and had undergone treatment locally and abroad as they sought to manage her condition.

The bereaved family has since gathered at their rural home in Ngao Village, Tana River County, where funeral arrangements are underway. Amal is scheduled to be buried on Friday, September 18, 2026.

Leaders Send Condolences

President William Ruto sent his condolences to Senator Mungatana and his family following the announcement.

In a message shared on X, the President described the death of a child as a profound loss and prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family.

“The loss of a child is a sorrow beyond measure. At this profoundly difficult moment, I join your family, friends and all who knew and loved Amal in mourning a young life taken far too soon. May God grant you and your family strength, comfort and peace, and Amal’s soul rest in eternal peace,” President Ruto said.

People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua also condoled with the family, acknowledging the difficult journey the parents had taken while caring for their daughter.

“You have walked a long and difficult road with your daughter through her illness, and I pray God holds your hearts gently through this terrible loss, surrounds you with His comfort, and grant your precious daughter eternal rest,” Karua said.

The family has asked for prayers and privacy as it prepares for Amal’s burial.
