𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐢𝐚𝐲𝐚 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐚𝐬 𝐜𝐲𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧

Three children have died after a gas cylinder explosion sparked a fire that destroyed their home in Mahoma Village, Siriwo Sub-Location, Gem Yala Sub-County, Siaya County.

The incident happened on Monday evening, September 21, 2026, while the children were inside the house and their parents were away.

According to Siriwo Sub-Location Assistant Chief Dedan Ogol, the gas cylinder exploded and quickly caused a fire that engulfed the entire house.

Ogol said neighbours rushed to the scene after hearing the explosion and tried to put out the fire, but the flames had spread too quickly for them to rescue the children.

“The parents were away when the fire broke out. The response was immediate, but the fire spread too fast for anyone to reach the children,” Ogol said.

The children were trapped inside the burning house and died in the incident.

Their bodies were later recovered after the fire was brought under control.

Citizen Digital reported that the bodies were burnt beyond recognition.

Authorities have since launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the fire and determine what caused the gas cylinder to explode.

The incident has left residents of Mahoma Village mourning the loss of the three children.
