Police Probe Teenage Pregnancy Affecting 36 Learners in Bungoma

Bungoma, September 18 ,2026 -Police in Bungoma County have launched investigations into reports of teenage pregnancies affecting 36 learners at Bakisa Girls Secondary School in Webuye East Sub-County.

According to the school administration, 10 students are currently pregnant, while 13 have already given birth and another 13 reportedly dropped out of school after becoming pregnant.

Bakisa Girls Secondary School Principal Ruth Malika said the situation has disrupted the education and wellbeing of the affected learners.

The investigations seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the pregnancies and identify persons who may have been involved. Authorities have indicated that some of the cases involve minors and that appropriate action will be taken against anyone found to have violated the law. 

Webuye East Assistant County Commissioner Emmanuel Kenga said authorities were following up on the reported cases, stressing the need to establish how the pregnancies occurred.

The school administration has also raised concerns over the learners’ vulnerability while travelling between home and school. Malika said establishing a boarding facility could help improve the safety of students and enable affected learners to continue with their education. 

The reports have renewed concerns over teenage pregnancy and school dropout in the area, with parents, teachers and local authorities being urged to work together to protect learners and ensure that those affected receive the necessary support.

Authorities are expected to continue with investigations as they seek to establish the full circumstances surrounding the cases and determine whether any offences were committed.

The National Government Constituencies Development Fund records show that Bakisa Girls Secondary School is located in Webuye East Constituency, Bungoma County, and has received funding for school infrastructure.
