Kenya Power has confirmed that a widespread electricity outage affected several parts of the country on Wednesday evening, including Nairobi, the Coast, the Mt. Kenya region and parts of the Central Rift.

The utility said technical teams were deployed immediately to restore power, while noting that North Rift and Western Kenya remained largely unaffected.

The outage comes ahead of the scheduled network maintenance set for Thursday, July 30, 2026, which will see electricity supply interrupted in selected areas of Nairobi, Nyeri, Kwale and Mombasa counties between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Most of the planned works are intended to improve and strengthen the electricity distribution network.

Kenya Power has urged customers in the affected locations to plan accordingly and apologized for the inconvenience caused by both the unexpected outage and the planned maintenance activities.

The company says restoration efforts are ongoing, while the scheduled maintenance will proceed as planned to enhance the reliability of power supply.
