Kenya Railways plans to extend the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) by 15 kilometres from Syokimau to Nairobi CBD, allowing passengers to board trains directly from the city centre. The new line will follow the existing metre-gauge railway corridor with stations at Imara Daima, Makadara and Nairobi CBD, and is expected to be part of the Ksh28 billion Nairobi Railway City project aimed at improving urban rail transport.
